PACKING TIPS FROM ROBIN WALLACE
I don’t have any problem packing; I just throw everything in and go. I always end up taking way more than I need. And I take complete outfits as I do not have that sense of style where I can mix and match and make four looks out of five pieces.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have my “outfits” and they seldom deviate from their original incarnation. I always admire the women who can throw on a floral skirt with a striped T-shirt and then a weirdly non contrasting colored sweater over it and it all works. My assistant Catrin does this and always looks adorable. I try it and I look like a bag lady.
So when I met Robin Wallace, who among other things goes into closets and tells people what to keep and what to toss, she also teaches people how to “Shop Their Closets” and make many outfits out of their existing pieces.
I told her we were going on this trip to Paris today, which is business for the two of us. We have several big art events for the artist Richard Prince, which is for Glenn’s work, and then I have my reading on Monday and we have some social and fun stuff in between. I don’t want to pack twenty outfits and end up wearing six, which is what always happens.
So, Robin came over this week and without having to go out and get anything new for all these events, she mixed and matched and showed me how to pack.
She also took me way out of my comfort zone, in terms of what goes with what. I’m a little nervous and a little excited at the same time, a feeling I quite like.
