THE FIRST COLORS OF SPRING
Spring has not exactly sprung and despite the fact today was the warmest day we have had in a long, cold winter there are inevitably some dreary days ahead. Everyone I talk to is so sick of their winter clothes they could scream. Hats, gloves, snow boots that there is no point in cleaning yet and coats, coats, coats. My friend Ashley is so sick of it she bundled up her entire family’s winter wardrobe and put it away. The other day I was at her house(more about that next week) and she was prancing around in a white linen dress. She looked adorable, but it was pouring and windy outside. Her daughter was complaining of not having any warm clothes. Ashley is a true optimist. “If I wear a sundress – the sun will come.”
I think the one thing we can do to sort of brighten up our black, gray and navy pants and skirts, is to forget the heavy sweaters, put on a white t-shirt or blouse and throw a colorful cardigan over it. I am nuts for cardigans. They totally change an outfit. When I’m on the road and have to do a few appearances in one day I will toss one or two in my tote, and change them as the day goes on; it looks like I have a whole new outfit.
And right now when we are in between seasons and longing for light clothes and bright colors they are the perfect wardrobe addition.
This week, with the help of Lucy we went online and found some good options – colorful cardigans to make you feel like spring is here.
Old Navy has some great ones I love this pink with the flowers, and you can’t beat the price. Put this over a pair of navy or gray pants and you have a whole new outfit. $20

Yellow is the new “it” color. It’s hard for blondes to wear but I feel like trying with this one. Old Navy $24.50

Lucy and I did a zoom comparison between this pricey one from Net-A-Porter made by Crumpet and the Old Navy one above. OK – cashmere is the big difference. But in terms of style we like the Old Navy better and the lighter weight will take you into summer! $480

If you are one of those people who refuses to wear color, this classic navy from Inhabit is pretty chic. You can wear it all year round and it has the lapels that make it a little dressier. Personally I want some COLOR…… $448

If money is not an object and you want a great neutral this Donna Karan from Net-A-Porter looks like one of those items you might never take off. $1500

But when it comes to style, price and great cashmere nobody does it better than J.Crew. I love that this is short sleeved but a long sweater. I think you can wear it over sundresses later and now over a long sleeved shirt and a pair of pants or jeans. And I love the red. $158

This Juicy Couture screams SPRING! For the price it offers some nice details And I can see putting this over a little black or navy dress and then taking it into summer too. $99.99

If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time you know me and purple sweaters. I follow men around who wear them and take their photos. I buy them for Glenn at every holiday. I buy them for my girls. I bought this one for me. J.Crew $158

Now this one has a Mr. Rogers look I find kind of reverse sexy. It’s also a shade of green you don’t see that often and the shade totally goes with the Mr. Rogers look. I like it. I got this one too. J.Crew $248

So if you too are feeling the dark clothes blues, I would go spring for a sweater!
