WHEN YOU GET A LOT OF SNOW ~ MAKE A SNOWMAN
So it snowed. And for some reason when the weather does things, which it does all the time it becomes a big deal and everyone talks about it. It’s on every channel and it takes over. Did you hear about the snow storm? Think there is going to be a snow storm? How big is it going to be? Like every one has a Doppler chip in their solar plexus or something.
Then there are the life questions. You going out in the snow? We’re closing the office. Think we should close the office? The people on the eighth floor are closing. The schools are closing early. Every goes into a panic.
I don’t know why but I’ve never really been bothered by the weather, in fact I love the snow. I love the big, stay inside, you can’t see your feet when you walk it looks like God through a white blanket over the city kind of storms. Cold, blustery, romantic, movie moment, as long as no one gets hurt, epic storms.
This one was actually none of those things. I don’t know if anyone got hurt. I’m sure there were some car problems. But more people die from drinking and driving then getting in the car in a snow storm and driving.
The only thing I was concerned about was the day of the storm was Lucy’s 13th birthday party. Not her actual birthday, that is this week, but her party. And she always gets gypped. Not like the people who are born on Christmas do, usually getting one gift for both occasions; but she can never have her party on her actual birthday weekend as it always falls on President’s Weekend and most people are out of town. So if the snow was going to prevent her dinner, it wasn’t going to happen next week.

The sunset before the storm. This is what the sky looked like the night before the day of the “big” storm.

This is what it looked like the next morning. It was just gray and rainy. It might not even snow they said.
I worked out. I went to the office. I had lunch with my friend and fellow blogger Gotham Gal aka Joanne Wilson. One of my ten friends I promised myself I would have lunch with in the new year.

The place wasn’t packed but people were out.

Joanne Wilson, someone who helps a lot of people and causes and manages to run a big family and businesses. We don’t get much time to catch up…

But it was Friday and cold, a perfect day to linger over pots of tea and coffees….

When I came out it had started to snow. I had to get uptown as the bakery called and told me I had to come and pick up Lucy’s cake as they were closing early “due to the snow”.
By four it was coming down, but it was only the start they said. I had Lucy check with her friends and they were all coming. New Yorkers are a tough lot, especially the 13 year old ones. So the party was on.

When we went down to get a cab it looked like this.

Cab Karma….

I love cab karma. And whenever I give up a cab that was mine to someone else I always get another one right away. Cab karma works.

Lucy waiting for her guests. We had to sit at a separate table. It has gotten to that point.

The cake I rushed to get.

We got to join them for cake. No, those are not real drinks. They are virgin Bellinis.

It was pretty bad when we exited the restaurant.

But when I got there….Cab karma. Want to find cabs? Hang with me.

The next morning. Perfect weather for left over Chinese food. BTW I’ve seen many worse storms.

The snow is pretty but it tends to graduate from white to gray….

With deep puddles of brown at most every corner.

But it was actually a gorgeous day so I walked up the street to have lunch with my friend Guilia. I’m getting those lunches in.

No question it snowed but it wasn’t that bad. Not in the city. No one was going to eat outside though ~ thats for sure.

We sat and talked so long it was four o’clock when I walked home through the park.

My feet are down there somewhere.

I still do not approve of the horse and carriages. But they did look pretty in the park at dusk. But I want them off the streets.

And here he was. A reminder that when the world gives you snow ~ be grateful and make a snowman.
