I can’t write much tonight because I am a gone girl.  I am also a way behind girl as I have just picked up Gillian Flynn’s blockbuster bestseller GONE GIRL. Can books actually be blockbusters? Or is that just the old screenwriter in me coming through?  I do know that for months people have been telling me to read this book. I also know that I have a bit of a contrarian streak.  Me?  No. OK , maybe. A little. If someone tells me to do something, I often don’t.   But after Glenn got an email from our friend Jamie Byng who is one of the big deals in British publishing; the owner and publisher of the prestigious firm Canongate and husband of hot shot WME agent Elizabeth Sheinkman, who is coincidentlly  my English agent – and this is starting to sound like  some promo for them, or me obnoxiously name dropping, which I’m not  and it’s not. It’s just when Jamie said it was one of the best books he has read in awhile I decided I had to read it.

Though I obviously wasn’t totally committed as while wandering through Hudson News at JFK on our way to Turks and Caicos I picked up Manil Suri’s new book and read that first.  His Death of Vishnu is still one of my all time favorites.

But, then, I picked up Gone Girl and I’ve been gone ever since. I started it Tuesday afternoon and if I write this really fast I can finish it by ten tonight.

Gone. Gone.  Gone. I’ve been totally sucked into this story. I’m not going to tell you anything about it. If you haven’t read it you must.

Now I must be gone…. I have reading to do.
