PRE-ORDER BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HOT PLACE

NEWS FROM THE FRONT

We are here safely, settled into our room at The Taj which is two blocks from Tay’s school. We are in a lovely room over looking The Commons that is so packed with bags from Bed Bath And Beyond it looks like their warehouse. We climb over printers and pillows and bags groaning with linens to get to the bathroom.

GOOD MORNING???

It’s six-thirty and our plane leaves in three hours. Here it is the beginning of the days that are the gateway to the phase I have been dreading for years.

IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME

In light of the fact we have forty-eight hours to lift off I thought maybe I should explain why so many of these details are more confounding to me than to other moms.

WHY DID SHE HAVE TO GET SO GOOD NOW THAT SHE IS LEAVING?

Did the space ship land? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tracey-jackson/countdown-to-let-go_b_193976.html

Or did she do what Anthony B. Wolf in his book get out of my life but drive me and sarah to the mall first? said would happen – they eventually grow up and become people you can spend real time with? Or are we both so aware of the impending separation we are relishing each other for who we are and not picking fights and looking for faults?

THE STEPS STEP UP TO THE PLATE

When you consider that one out of two marriages end in divorce and then think about how many kids are heading off to college this fall – well – do the math many have step every things.

BED BATH AND WAY BEYOND

I thought she was moving in to a dorm room, that size wise was something in the realm of eight by eight. Yet going by the last week’s purchases at it feels like she is moving into a McMansion.

GETTING CLOSER

We have a week to go. The emotional overload is at such a fever pitch

no one in the house knows if they are coming or going.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Dr. Carol Maxym adolescent expert and therapist for many years, not to mention author of the best selling TEENS IN TURMOIL
has been kind enough to respond to some of your questions.

LETTING GO – WHAT DOES THAT REALLY MEAN?

No phrase has been thrown around with more abandon in my world lately than “Letting Go” “ Let Go” “You’ve Got to Let Go” “Only choice you have is to Let Go.” At it’s most basic level I get it – at it’s most intricate I find it totally perplexing.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

I don’t know about you, but this FRESHMAN MOM has a lot of questions.

THE INDEPEN – DANCE by Taylor Templeton

Today’s blog is written by my daughter Taylor. Taylor and I decided we need a real Freshman student’s voice to give this blog some more texture and to see what it looks like from the other side. So she will be writing hopefully one a week, depending on her
work load.
So, let’s give it up for TAYLOR!

WHEN DID FAMILY BECOME A FOUR LETTER WORD?

Why is it we are one of the only countries in the world who treat family as if it were an untreatable condition? Now, I exaggerate here to make a point, but what I say is not so far off the mark, at least for many people in many familial situations.
